Jairam Rao, Field Team Member
Where are you from?
I am from Boston, Massachusetts.
What school do you attend?
I attend Boston Latin School.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I am interested in environmental science and biology. I like to make music alone and with friends and I like to participate in carpentry and woodworking projects. I like to read, especially history and high fantasy, along with classical literature.
How long have you been involved with Branching Out?
This is my first season with Branching Out.
Why did you choose to participate in Branching Out?
Branching Out seemed like the perfect opportunity to experience working in an environmental science field. Considering that I am planning to study environmental science in college, Branching Out is a way for me to explore environmental science from a career perspective.
What are your career or educational goals?
I do plan to attend a four-year college and possibly grad school. There I want to study science and history so as to establish a base of knowledge from which I can make a decision on my career.
What are you looking forward to during the Branching Out program this summer?
I love to work outside and with my hands, so I am very excited to be able to make a significant contribution to the National Parks System in the Northeast. I can already tell that we have a great team this year, and I am looking forward to working with them for the next few weeks.
What types of opportunities will Branching Out provide you with?
Branching Out will allow me to form a network within the environmental science profession in the governmental sector. The Olmsted Center has opportunities for research and study beyond this program, so Branching Out is the perfect way to begin my exploration of the professional side of environmental science.
