On the 15th of October, the School Year Ambassadors traveled to the South st. Farm in Somerville. The event we attended was Apple Cider Day, as soon as we arrived we began lending a hand to Ground Work Somerville. The goal was not to our surprise, to make apple cider. We used a manually operated machine to grind apples into a bucket, then we would slide the bucket over and press the apples until all the cider was collected in another bucket placed at the bottom. The most important thing we learned was how to properly press apple cider, with the help of Ground Work Somerville. Our highlights were getting most of the apples pressed and getting to taste the cider.

  1. I wrote Blender on my comment above, but the last letter got squished. You know, apple smoothies in a blender.

  2. Ah, It is easier with a blende! Oh, how many apples a day can you do with the press? I guess after 500 apples the blender motor would burn up. So then the press is the answer. I like the spice cardamon in applesauce with a little cinnamon. Have you tried it?
